Swoyersville Legion proud to host Vietnam memorial ‘Wall That Heals’

The Wall that Heals arrived this week at the Swoyersville American Legion, Shoemaker Street, with a grand entrance, fine motorcade, and plenty of American flags welcoming its arrival. The 250 foot replica of the wall in Washington D.C. will be at the Swoyersville American Legion, around the clock, through tomorrow at 3. This event is free and honors those Americans who served in the armed forces and gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

Motion asks court to unseal settlement in boy’s death

The Scranton Times LP, the parent company of The Citizens' Voice, filed a motion Wednesday seeking to unseal a settlement between Luzerne County and the parents of a child who died after being placed in foster care. Luzerne County Children and Youth Services and the parents of Anthony L. Puscavage reached a settlement in April and agreed to keep the terms confidential.

Re-enactors celebrate the past at Heritage Day

Pouring rain and chilly temperatures on Sunday weren't going to deter Kathleen Smith and others from celebrating Heritage Day at the county's oldest cemetery. Smith, a descendant of a Revolutionary War soldier and granddaughter of a World War II veteran, said soldiers buried in Hanover Cemetery weren't deterred by bad weather, so they can't be either.

Convicted killer Riccardi loses appeal

Riccardi, 39, is serving life in prison for the April 2009 slaying of Plymouth musician Donnie Skiff, who was robbed and beaten to death in the woods in Jenkins Township. Riccardi appealed his conviction on a number of grounds, including ineffective counsel and based on an allegation that a former district attorney “suppressed evidence.”

Plymouth Kiwanians host youth organization

The Plymouth Kiwanis Club recently hosted Holly Spece, who plans to organize a youth organization in Plymouth Borough for youngsters in grades 4 through 12. The group will focus on community service, including helping residents with yard work or other projects, assisting other borough organizations with projects and fundraisers such as cleaning the Shawnee Cemetery and other projects to improve the neighborhoods and the community. She is contacting all Plymouth Borough organizations for their support.

Teenage Girl Dies in Saturday Night Crash

Loved ones have made a memorial for the 16-year-old girl who died in a car crash Saturday night on South Main Street. The Luzerne County coroner said Jasmine Cardona of Plymouth was a passenger in the SUV that crashed into a utility pole near the St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

The Luzerne County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 24-year-old William Paterson. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Settlement reached with child’s parents

Luzerne County Children and Youth Services has reached a settlement with the parents of a toddler who died after being placed into foster care, according to court documents. A document filed in court Thursday says the county and the parents of 21-month-old Anthony L. Puscavage have agreed to keep “all terms and conditions of settlement” confidential.
